About Socialgoat Design
We are basically a very small web design business that is exclusively focused on small enterprises, organizations, and individuals looking for a web presence but have very tight budgets. We are not pretentious and we enjoy our work, treat others with respect, and want to meet and exceed your expectations.
The People
Socialgoat Design is owned and operated by Rebecca Eilering.
She was born in Maryville, IL (which is just outside of St. Louis, MO) and resided in the area until the fall of 2002. Between late 2002 and mid 2005 she lived in Athens, OH while in graduate school at Ohio University. In 2005 she moved back to the St. Louis region. She currenty lives and works in Collinsville, IL.
In 2005, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University. In 2001, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. While in school she was focused on being an artist and teaching. After she received her Masters Degree she taught art at St. Charles Comminity College and for the Center of Creative Arts in St. Louis. Web design was something she sort of fell into while designing a website for her art. From there she started doing work for others and getting more and more interested in making websites, graphic design and creative work for others as a career.
There are some similarities to fine art and graphic/web design but there are marked differences. Rebecca is trained as a visual artist and understands the elements and principles of design - they can be implimented in a similar fashion for fine art and in graphic and web design.
When she is not making websites, she is an artist who draws, paints and creates mixed media works about the process of exploration, travel and discovery. She collects maps, records, Lego Minifigures. She likes reading, going to concerts, playing ukulele, listening to music, going on bike rides and walking, swimming, and being around animals.
Technical Abilities
Web Design
She uses Dreamweaver CS5 in combination with coding by hand.
Her strongest coding skills are in HTML/XHTML and CSS.
Strong with using and editing PHP, JavaScript, and jQuery.
Intermediate skills in SQL and XML
She can build CMS-type websites using WordPress and Joomla.
Computer Software for General Design Work
Adobe Creative Suite 5. Her strongest skills reside in Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver.
She has basic knowledge of After Effects, InDesign, Fireworks.
General Art
Observational drawing using graphite, charcoal, pen and ink.
Painting using acrylics, oils and watercolor
Printmaking. She highly skilled in screen printing, etching, lithography and woodcut. She specialized in printmaking in graduate school.
Mixed Media. Not only can she work solely in one form of media, she is skilled in combining the mediums listed above and can incorporate the use of digital technology into the work.
